Paper Title
Surface Modification of Porous Carbon Material for Electro – Sorption Application

Abstract
Abstract - Capacitive Deionization Technology (CDI) has been highlighted as hopefully electrochemical for ion removal in water treatment system. It was promised for anion removal for example chlorine, nitrate, fluoride etc. because there no wastewater flow and no additional chemicals used during removal, regeneration, or cleaning processes. However, the low deionization capacity of CDI electrodes has been a major limitation for its industrial application. Thus, there is a need for innovative electrode materials. In this study, we proposed a hybrid capacitive deionization system (HCDI) by developing Ag-coated bituminous based activated carbon (named as BITU) electrode. Ag particles were deposited on BITU powder via a facile impregnation method. BITU were dispersed in a 10 mM AgNO3 solution, followed by sodium borohydride as a reducing agent and variety of contact time for 2, 4 and 24 hours respectively (BITU-0, BITU-2H and BITU-4H). The percentage of silver particles on BITU-0 surface were significantly increased when longer coating time. The electrode prepared from the Ag-coated AC exhibited enhanced anion adsorption capacity was 3.04 and 7.75 [mmol/g] for NaCl and NaNO3 electrolyte, respectively. We supposed this HCDI system will be used for removing alternative ions from wastewater treatment process. Keywods - Capacitive Deionization, HCDI, Ag coated, Nitrate removal, Bituminous based carbon.
