Mechanical Propertiesand Antibacterial Effect Against Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli of Weft Knits: Effect of Twist Coefficient

Abstract
The standard of living has been improved as a result of technological advancement. People no longer satisfy with comfortable textile products and wish to have more functions. Antimicrobial property is one pervasive concern due to the acquaintance of knowledge. This study proposes wrapped yarns and weft knits with mechanical and antimicrobial properties, examining the influence of the twist coefficient. A rotor spin device and varying twist coefficients are used to form wrapped yarns, which are evaluated in terms of mechanical properties. The breaking tenacity of the wrapped yarns is approximate 1.3-1.65 (cN/dtex). The weft knits have breaking tenacity along the warp direction that is twice that along the weft direction. Moreover, the weft knits exhibit greater antimicrobial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) than Escherichia coli (E. coli). Keywords: twist coefficient, zinc ion, antimicrobial property, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli).
