Abstract : Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is an indispensable tool in modern day travel. Kerala Tourism is ideally poised to launch itself into the next phase of tourism growth. Using GIS based technology for tourism administration will go a long way in consolidating its position. The paper examines the present status of GIS in the Kerala Tourism arena. Further, based on empirical analysis a model is developed for tourism administration in the state. Even though Information technology has been used in tourism marketing, it is yet to contribute significantly to tourism administration in Kerala. Using GIS based model for tourism administration will hold key to planning, marketing and policy formulation in tourism in the state. A web based GIS model will be suited to the needs of tourism administration in the state. Based on the study and inferences, an attempt is made in this paper to administer tourism in Kerala efficiently and effectively.
