Abstract : This study aimed to evaluate the thrombogenic potential of bare metal stents in comparison to drug-eluting stents
coated with Sirolimus and Everolimus, using a simplified blood flow loop model. Blood samples were obtained from an
abattoir, and three experimental procedures were conducted: determining heparin concentrations, assessing thrombogenicity
in vitro across three stent types, and measuring platelet and leukocyte counts in treated blood. The results showed that bare
metal stents produced the highest thrombus formation, while Sirolimus-eluting stents demonstrated the lowest thrombosis
risk, and Everolimus-eluting stents had moderate thrombogenicity. These findings underscore the importance of optimizing
stent coatings to minimize the risk of stent thrombosis.
