Abstract : Dental resin composites are medical devices valued for their aesthetic appeal and biocompatibility. However, traditional methacrylate monomers, such as Bis-GMA, are linked to bisphenol A (BPA) release and associated health risks. This study presents a modified synthesis of Bis-EFMA, a novel BPA-free monomer derived from Bis-HEPF and MEI, using DBTL as a catalyst. The synthesized Bis-EFMA was characterized using FT-IR and mass spectrometry to verify its molecular structure and to determine the presence of specific functional groups, its molecular weight and purity. Ensuring the purity of the synthesized Bis-EFMA is critical to avoid impurities that could compromise its performance and application. These techniques collectively ensure the structural integrity of Bis-EFMA and confirm its suitability for clinical applications, ultimately determining its suitability for widespread use in dental composites.
