Author :Kung-Chi Chan, Lih-Juan Chanlin, Chiao-Ru Wang

Article Citation :Kung-Chi Chan ,Lih-Juan Chanlin ,Chiao-Ru Wang , (2016 ) " Self-Assessment of Nutrient Intake Using Mobile AR " , International Journal of Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology(IJASEAT) , pp. 28-31, Volume-4,Issue-4, Spl. Iss-1

Abstract : To promote dietary health, support for referencing dietary intake to render authoritative judgment is essential for encouraging healthy food intake. With the advancements in mobile technology, the use of a mobile tool can encourage appropriate dietary intake. In this study, a mobile AR food system was implemented on a university campus as a personal health tool for college students. Students were encouraged to record their dietary intake and analyze their daily nutrient intake. Students’ self-reporting of their intake behavior was assessed before and after the use of the AR food system. Paired t-tests indicated a significant effect in most criteria after use of the system (p < 0.01). The results of the study suggest that the use of the mobile AR system increased students’ awareness of various nutrient contents in their diet. However, tuning of the system for ease of use is required for future implementation. Index Terms- augmented reality, mobile learning, dietary intake, food and nutrition, nutrition assessment.
