Abstract : This study looks into the stainability and functionality of the cotton and silk dyed with fermented indigo and fresh indigo leaves as a research preceding the development of cultural crafted products using the functional fabrics dyed Obangsaek. The CIELAB measurements of the cotton and silk dyed with fermented indigo and fresh indigo leaves showed 34.17, 37.26 and 66.55 for L*, -4.20, -4.58 and -15.15 for a*, and -20.45, -22.37 and -10.04 for b* respectively, while the Munsell measurements exhibited 1.7BG, 1.0PB and 2.5B in color, 3.3, 3.6 and 6.5 of brightness, and 0.9, 5.4 and 4.0 of chroma respectively. On the whole, fabrics dyed with fermented indigo and fresh indigo leaves showed high dyeing fastness unlike fabrics dyed with any other natural dye. The fabrics dyed also exhibited SPF 50+, an outstanding sun blocking performance. The deodorization rate of the fabrics dyed appeared low level, in 23.5~45.9% range. The dyed fabrics showed a 95.0, 99.7 and 99.9% of excellent antimicrobial activity against staphylococcus aureus respectively, while they almost did not appeared antimicrobial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae.
