Paper Title
A Comparative Study of Peak Power Reducing Strategy with On-Board Energy Storage System for Electric Railway
Abstract
This paper presented a comparative study on the strategy of reducing the peak power with an On-Board Energy
Storage System (OBESS) for DC electric railway and developed a model of DC electric railway system with the OBESS
installed on a train by using MATLAB program. Also, four peak power reduction strategies were presented: peak shaving
control strategy, proportional control strategy, SOC control strategy, and peak demand cutting strategy. To validate the
proposed model and strategies, they have been tested and evaluated with the BTS Sky train system-Silom line in Bangkok,
Thailand. The comparison results showed that the peak demand cutting strategy was better than other strategies offered under
peak power reduction during train acceleration and overall energy consumption.
