Paper Title
Harnessing Kinetic Energy as A Means to Ensuring Sustainable Pilgrimage
Abstract
Globally, as a result of mankind’s unsustainable production and consumption natural energy resources are being
exhausted. Today, more than ever, it is vital to find more sustainable alternatives. While, materials are the building blocks of
the quality of our world, it is the role of researchers to utilize them to develop and improve standards of living to ensure
thriving lives, economies and environments. Therefore, in alignment with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
and the local Saudi Vision 2030 to improve the quality of life, this paper proposes an energy harvester based on human foot
strike in Makkah (Al-haram) and in the holy site of Mina during Hajj period, when millions of pilgrims come to visit. The
energy harvester will utilize Human Kinetic Energy (HKE) by using piezoelectric materials and convert it into electrical
energy, offering economically and environmentally friendly solutions to achieve the objectives of the SDGs and Saudi Vision
2030.
