Modification of Existing Routing Algorithms For Geo-Intelligence Based OFC Network Route Planning

Abstract
Optimized Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network route planning is required for reduced CAPEX and enhanced network coverage. Technology specific, topology determined, optimized shortest route is essential for OFC network route planning. There are a number of shortest path routing algorithms available based on different criteria. Similarly different fiber based technology works on diverse topology. But the optimized length of fiber cable for ring topology i.e. Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) or point to multipoint topology i.e. Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) can’t be achieved with any single existing shortest path routing algorithm that run on digital navigational grade Geographic Information System (GIS) data. In this paper we investigate the weakness of existing shortest path routing algorithms in terms of OFC route optimization with respect to practical scenario and propose a suite of heuristics and routing algorithms based upon existing shortest path routing algorithms for automated Geo-Intelligence based optimized OFC network route planning with polynomial time complexity. Simulation results of proposed algorithm are also presented in this paper. Index Terms- Geo-Intelligence, GIS, Optimization, Routing.
