Abstract : Abstract - Continuously variable transmission (CVT) is an automatic transmission, which provides the ability to get infinite gear ratios within a particular range. This system had been in use within scooters, BAJA off-road vehicles and even found use in passenger vehicles as Nissan invested heavily in the production of a modern CVT system such as the XTRONIC CVT. The conventional pulley and belt based CVT arrangement presents the issue of excessive wear and tear due to friction, which could lead to an unreliable transmission especially if used in passenger vehicles. This research aims at identifying these limitations and offering design modifications to improve the heat transfer rate and thus efficiency improvement in pulley and belt based CVT. The simulation is carried out in ANSYS using the steady-state thermal analysis tool.
