Abstract : Abstract - Today, the most scorching concern in most of the countries and especially India is the overgrowing air-pollution. Most amount of Particulate matter (PM), SOx, NOx etc. is released from various industries, coal fired power stations, construction and demolition work. If we consider the 10 most polluted cities with regard to PM level in the entire world, 9 will be from India alone- Gaya, Agra, Gurugram, Lucknow, Delhi, Varanasi, Kanpur, Patna and Faridabad [1]. Ambient pollution has a proven adverse impact on human health. The polluted particulates are capable of travelling long distances resulting in serious respiratory issues and fatal sickness to all alive. India’s major pollution bank is the coal-fired power generation plants. As of 31st March 2019, 56% i.e., 365GW capacity of power is supplied from thermal power stations. These thermal power plants generate about 75% of the total electricity in the country [1]. Though the government of India is taking all necessary precautions and actions to contain environmental pollution from all possible sources, the situation still is alarming. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC) keeps updating the norms and works constantly on the amendment rules of thermal power plants. The paper widely aims at the presentation of all updated norms, their implementation status and its obstacles. It also has a vivid explanation of suggested measures, wherever possible [1].
