Abstract : Abstract - 3D printing is widely used for production of prototypes through the deposition of material in layer by layer. Among various methods fused deposition modeling (FDM) is popular method for production of parts using PLA, ABS, PETG, PEEK filaments. This work investigates the influence of different 3D printing parameters viz., infill density, printing speed and infill pattern on surface quality/ surface roughness of the components prepared. Taguchi L9 experimental design is employed to conduct experiments for printing the parts, having the nozzle diameter as 0.3 mm, layer height as 0.15 mm and nozzle temperature as 220˚C.The values of surface roughness in different standards i.e., Ra, Rq and Rz were measured in a direction perpendicular to the building direction and predictive models were developed. Surface roughness of Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) 3D print parts is highly influenced by infill density followed by printing speed; it increase beyond 60% infill density. A minimum surface roughness of 4.61μm is obtained at 60% infill density; 30 mm/sec printing speed with triangular infill pattern. The surface roughness worsens with increased in fill density and printing speed due to unfavorable temperature conditions during solidification.
