Paper Title
Securing e-FIRs Using Blockchain

Abstract
Abstract - India has experienced a sharp rise in crime in recent years. Frequently, these acts go unreported. Even though the police can save FIRs and NCRs online, most FIRs are still written by hand in accordance with tradition. In order to report a cognizable offense, the At the police station, the complainant typically needs to be present. As a successful e-governance system, in 2009, the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) for the entire country was launched. It is, however, a centralized system for a certain state. In order to ensure complaints are handled appropriately and securely to prevent any unapproved grant, there is no possibility for a single point of failure, hence a fully decentralized system is necessary. The police department's FIR will undergo hashing before being uploaded to the blockchain network, encrypted, and stored in IPFS.The complaint, together with its timestamp, is saved on the distributed ledger technology (DLT) i.e. blockchain, thus the complainant will have enough proof against the police if they refuse to submit the FIR under duress or claim they never got the complaint. If all of the records were kept in an immutable distributed database, there wouldn’t be any chance of the FIRs/NCRs being tampered or being undetected. Keywords - Blockchain, FIR, encryption, IPFS, Ethereum, and cryptography.
