Abstract : Purpose - The Sustainable Development Goal cannot be achieved until employment reaches all the sectors of society,
including Persons with Disabilities. Persons with Disabilities face higher unemployment, lowerilliteracy, skill mismatch,
inappropriate training, and employer bias. This research will find employment challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities
in the Indian Hotel Industry.
Design/methodology/approach - This Study tookthe analysis of the census 2011 to understand the socio-demographics of
Persons with Disabilities in India. The StudyStudy also reviewed 58 papersto understand employers’perspectives
towardpeople with Disabilities. This StudyStudy took a survey from 57 Hotels in India through a questionnaire. All relevant
parameters were rated on a Likert scale and analyzed through a weighted average.
Findings - India’s Sustainable Development Goal can be achieved only after including Persons with Disabilities in
mainstream employment with an inclusive approach.The actual data onPersons with Disabilities is much higher than claimed
by the survey. The literacy rate among Persons with Disabilities is low as compared to non-Persons with Disabilities, and at
the same time, the unemployment rate is higher. In India,the employment rate amongPersons with Disabilities is 37%, much
lowerthanin other countries. An analysis of the census 2011 shows that 58% of the Persons with Disabilitiescome under the
working age of 15-59 years. At the same time, 65% of disabilities come under four disabilities, namely, movement, seeing,
speaking, and hearing, as per Census 2011. The StudyStudy finds out the most employable disability in Hotel Industry and
suitable job roles for each disability in Hotel Industry as per the Employer's perspective. The StudyStudy further compares
Persons with Disabilities and Persons with non-Disabilities employees on selected parameters from Employer's perspective.
Practical implications - The StudyStudy suggests a Sustainable Development Employment Growth model for People with
Disabilities. The model emphasizesa skill matrix for proper skill match as per disability, specialized training program,
availability of a potential list of candidates, proper social integration through an inclusive induction program, and most
important, removal of Employer's bias towards Persons with Disabilities in the recruitment process.
