Review of Research in Control System, Power, and Electrical Engineering

Abstract -The control system, power system, and power electronics are the fundamental areas of electrical engineering without them any concept of electrical engineering cannot be imagined, because in the control system we study the control of output (mechanical or electrical DC or AC) by continuously manipulating the input (mechanical or electrical DC or AC) by using an open-loop or closed-loop control strategy until the desired output is reached e.g. in a variable frequency electric drive (VFD) where input is an AC voltage and output is desired rotational speed, also in the case where the drive is connected through a three-phase controlled converter or inverter for supplying the three-phase voltage to all the three phases in correct sequence require high-frequency power switches like power diode, power BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor), SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier), IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor), power MOSFET (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) for handling such high magnitude voltage and current is required which comes under the field of power electronics where the control of power level voltage and current is required using semiconductor-based devices. Also, in the case of three-phase, grid-tied inverters need to supply three-phase power to the utility grid via a three-phase transformer, passive power filters like LC, LCL, etc., and other FACTS based controllers like shunt active filters need professional expertise in power engineer. This paper discusses all the research in the field of control systems and power engineering with challenges, also the IEEE protocols for interoperability of renewable sources with the grid. Keywords - Closed-loop, Gain, Power switch, FACTS, Grid-tied, Solar PV, Switching, THD.
