Invitro Study Of Ti-6al-4v Alloy Coated With Tio2 By Physical Vapour Deposition (E-Beam) Method And Hap By RF Sputtering Method For Orthopaedic Application
Abstract
Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used alloy for orthopaedic and dental applications, because of its excellent
strength and corrosion resistance. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is a nanoceramics which gives better osseo integration. TiO2 is an
antibiotic, which shows antimicrobial properties. The aim of the study is mainly focus on double layer coating of TiO2 and
nano ceramics HAp by PVD(E-Beam Evaporation) and RF Sputtering methods. TiO2 and HAp coated alloy was
characterized by SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD and also Hardness test by Vicker’s Micro Hardness test. The invitro study of the
TiO2 and HAp coated alloy was carried out by using Hank’s solution. After invitro study, TiO2 gives better bonding strength
and the amount of calcium phosphate raises, which gives better osseo integration that is suitable for orthopaedic implants.
